US actor Leonardo DiCaprio slams Trump environment withdrawal

US president faces a backlash from famous American actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio over the country’s withdrawal from the Paris climate accord.

The actor spoke out against Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris agreement following the US president’s decision to stop being part of the accord on Thursday, calling it “careless” and “deeply discouraging”

DiCaprio swiftly took to social media to decry the controversial decision, writing on Facebook,  “Today, the future livability of our planet was threatened by President Trump's careless decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement.

He added, “Our future on this planet is now more at risk than ever before. For Americans and those in the world community looking for strong leadership on climate issues, this action is deeply discouraging.”

The Paris Agreement is within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance.

DiCaprio is an environmental activist who has highlighted causes raising awareness over global warming and other environmental issues in recent years.
